On
February 7, 2009, at the tender age of 5, Nelson Capita was
diagnosed with PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease). There is
currently no treatment or cure for PKD, but there are more researchers,
clinical trials and people pulling together to fight this disease than
ever before. There is hope – hope for a treatment, hope for a cure,
hope for a long and happy life despite PKD. To learn more about PKD
please visit their website at PKDCURE.ORG. To donate to help the Capita family, please click here. You can contact Katie Capita (Nelson's mom) at kcapita@charter.net.
In
May of 2009 Tim Dyson had the honor of attending a trivia night held on
behalf of Nelson to help raise awareness and money for the PKD
Foundation. Tim presented a helmet, donated by Pro-Dirt Cycles out of
Wentzville MO, and is now a rider "in-training" for Tim Dyson FMX. "The
evening was a blast and getting to know Nelson was the high-light of my
tour" says Tim Dyson. Below is information on the next trivia night
being held for Nelson.
"Provide
a forum for those who have lost loved ones to cancer while aggressively
raising money to find a cure.
No one should have to go through what millions of cancer victims,
survivors and those left behind have endured."
Cancer
Sucks Inc. was established in 1998 by two brothers, Rick Horton of
Bixby, OK and Frank White of McPherson, KS. Their organization was
created out of the pain and frustration that comes from losing a loved
one to cancer, combined with the desire to do what they can to prevent
anyone from experiencing the same loss. The 1996 death of Donna Holland
White, Rick and Frank’s mother, was a devastating event and one that
will never be forgotten. While undergoing treatments, surgeries, and
the emotional roller coaster that comes with cancer, Donna still had
time to think of others by making arrangements to have her body donated
to cancer research at the time of her death. CancerSucks.com is a living
memorial dedicated to her and focused on raising as much money for
cancer research as they can.
